The global dynamics are such that African countries have contributed little or nothing to global GHG emissions but must take this into account for future development - whereas developed countries have been able to grow their economies without having to integrate the externalities of this past growth. There are therefore country-specific issues that need to be addressed in order to generate sustainable growth, which are also related to this historical inequitable burden on African countries. Strategies developed and proposed to address these challenges are discussed in this research area. Projects will also be developed to analyze issues of energy transition (SDG 7), environmental policies to reduce the impact of economic activity on the environment (SDG 13), water management (SDG 6) and responsible consumption (SDG 12).
