The Africa Institute for Research in Economics and Social Sciences hosted a research seminar titled “Food Insecurity and the Reconfiguration of Migration Pathways” on Wednesday, February 18 at the UM6P Rabat Campus.
Led by Réda Marakbi, Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Artois, the seminar explored how food insecurity shapes migration aspirations in the Middle East and North Africa.
Drawing on micro-data from the seventh wave of the Arab Barometer, the presentation highlighted how food insecurity significantly increases migration pressure, with particularly strong effects on aspirations toward irregular migration routes.
