On Wednesday, February 4th, the Africa Institute for Research in Economics and Social Sciences will host Professor Eduardo Amaral Haddad for its Research Seminar. Professor Haddad will discuss the results of his research on measuring the ocean economy using an interregional input-output framework.
ABSTRACT:
We develop an interregional input-output framework to measure the ocean economy as an integrated production system. An empirical application to Brazil shows how ocean-related value added and employment arise through indirect interregional linkages extending beyond coastal areas. The results reveal strong regional heterogeneity and spillover effects, highlighting the limits of narrowly defined measures. The proposed methodology is fully replicable in other economies and readily extendable to CGE-based policy evaluation.
