On Wednesday, October 8th, FGSES Vice-Dean Dorothée Boccanfuso and Professor Touhami Abdelkhalek led a research seminar on Statistical Inference for Poverty Lines and Measures. The seminar focused on addressing the uncertainty in predicted poverty lines and the resulting poverty measures. Traditional poverty assessments often assume poverty lines are known with certainty, which overlooks the statistical uncertainty in their estimation. Professors Boccanfuso and Abdelkhalek presented four methods: interval projection, optimization, and bootstrap techniques, to construct confidence intervals for poverty lines and FGT poverty indices.
