ABSTRACT
This one-day workshop will bring together established and early career researchers to discuss current research on irregular crossings and forced (im)mobilities in the MENA region. Preliminary findings from an ongoing research project on migrants’ decision-making processes related to sea crossings in Morocco and Lebanon will also be presented at the workshop. The project investigates the role of local contexts, policy environments, social media, and risk perceptions in shaping these decisions.
The workshop also aims to mark the World Refugee Day, which takes place on the same day, by incorporating an art exhibition or performance by Sub-Saharan migrants based in Morocco.
This workshop aims to:
- Share preliminary findings from an ongoing research project on migrants’ decision-making processes related to sea crossings in Morocco and Lebanon.
- Enable an exchange between established and early career researchers to present and discuss their current research which explores the evolving dynamics of irregular migration and forced (im)mobilities in the MENA region.
- Explore the possibility of publishing an edited volume that brings together Global South perspectives on the evolving nature of irregular and forced (im)mobilities in the MENA region.
The presentations will be held in both English and French, depending on the preference of the speaker, to ensure participation and inclusion of diverse perspectives.
