Research in development and environmental economics brings together scholars to research and devise solutions for the sustainable development of African economies.

Researchers produce and suggest suitable economic approaches and instruments for the design, analysis and assessment of public policy to support economic decision-making in development and environmental economics to the African scientific community and various public and private stakeholders. The program is a research platform, incubating young researchers and networking experienced researchers, academics and national and international experts working on program themes and interested in the sustainable development of African economies, in general.

Issues tackled in this area focus primarily on African sustainable development but are not limited to it. Using a multidimensional approach, economic and environmental development is examined from a variety of angles to effectively capture the influences and interrelationships that public policy has on sustainable development.
